Can you answer this question? We are trying. Every day we provide answers to this question from all angles by covering the intersection of the “green” movement and the “home decor” movement. Core to our mission is the communication of a general overarching sense of intelligence and optimism. Green, to us, is an amazing design challenge which we can solve.

Bon appetit, y'all : stories and recipes from three generations of Southern cooking

Recipe Source

RecipeSource is one of the oldest recipe sites on the Internet. Our collection was started in 1993 by Jennifer Snider when she discovered the wonders of Usenet newsgroups & Internet mailing lists as a student at the University of California at Berkeley. She started saving recipes posted to those sources and soon amassed thousands of recipes. When her friends found out about the collection, we encouraged her to put them on the web, and she agreed, provided we helped her. After several months of hard work, the recipes first appeared on the web in 1995 as SOAR: The Searchable Online Archive of Recipes. From our start with around 10,000 recipes we've grown the collection to 7 times that size, and had our pages accessed millions of times from around the world. Thanks to our popularity, by 2001 we'd outgrown our original home, so moved the collection here to RecipeSource.com.

The Ultimate Cheapskate's

Road Map to True Riches

by Jeff Yeager

Departing from the get rich mantra of many personal finance books, Yeager, once dubbed the Ultimate Cheapskate by NBC's Today Show, instead advises readers to shift their priorities and live well on less in this sensible guide to frugal living. By emphasizing the virtues and satisfactions of living cheaply, Yeager convincingly makes the case that frugality can free more time and cash for life's true pleasures a passion-filled career, hobbies and giving back to one's loved ones and community.

The Eldercare Locator is the first step to finding resources for older adults in any U.S. community. It is a free national service of the Administration on Aging, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Just one phone call or Web site visit provides an instant connection to resources that enable older persons to live independently in their communities. Support services for caregivers are also available. The Eldercare Locator is designed to help older adults and their families and caregivers find their way through the maze of services for seniors by identifying trustworthy local support resources. The goal is to provide users with the information and resources they need that will help older persons live independently and safely in their homes and communities for as long as possible.

I Love You, Beth Cooper

by Larry Doyle

Recklessly announcing his love for the head cheerleader during his valedictorian commencement speech, Denis Cooverman is inducted into the wilder side of youth culture by the object of his affection, who turns out to be more than he bargained for.

Larry Doyle won the Thurber Prize for American Humor for this novel of teenage agnst. For more information on this award, check out the website of the Thurber House.

Website of the Week

Early in the last century, when questions about the health effects of smoking became a topic of widespread discussion, tobacco companies undertook a multi-faceted campaign to allay the public's fears. As terms like "smoker's cough" and "coffin nails" (referring to cigarettes) began to appear in the popular vernacular, tobacco marketers recognized the need to counter this threat to their livelihood. Our intention is to tell—principally through advertising images—the story of how, between the late 1920s and the early 1950s, tobacco companies used deceptive and often patently false claims in an effort to reassure the public of the safety of their products.

This is an exhibit created by the Stanford School of Medicine's Lane Library.
