Pick of the Week

Did you get an eReader over the holiday? Are you looking for an eBook to read this weekend?  Might we suggest the following title:

by Victoria Bylin
"You gotta face the ghosts." More poignant advice the Reverend John Leaf had yet to hear for dealing with his haunted past. A man of God now, he'd done things that would shame the devil himself, not the least of which was loving--and leaving--Abbie Windsor, a woman of true grit and uncommon courage, a woman who could make him whole! Abbie Windsor had weathered dark days with only the steel of her will for cold comfort. Yet today John Leaf -- who'd awakened her womanhood, who'd given her a daughter--offered her his protection. But could she accept a marriage in name only to the man who shared her soul?

Our OverDrive service is open for you to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks from, even when the library branches are closed!

Pick of the Week

Looking for something to read this weekend?  How about this amusing tome:

by Michael Ian Black
Finally, Michael Ian Black—suburban husband, father, and very famous comedian—ponders the question so many of us ask ourselves: How did I end up here? With deadpan wit and unexpected candor, Michael delivers a darkly funny-because-it’s-true take on his childhood, marriage, children, and career. This is a series of comedic essays where he shares acerbic observations about his family's life in suburbia, from shopping for an unnecessary divorce home to attending kindergarten recitals. Here he is—the brilliant mind behind Stella and The State: naked, exposed, a little chilly, and understandably shriveled.

Pick of the Week

Looking for something to read this weekend?  How about this book?

by Donna Strother Deekens
The Christmas season is a time for traditions, and in Richmond, one particular custom reigned supreme: a family outing to Miller and Rhoads department store. There, thousands of smiling faces would be waiting to enter the kingdom of Santaland -- an enchanted world marked by glittering snow and intricate train displays. From visits to area hospitals to a young man who demanded only a box of raisins, former Snow Queen Donna Strother Deekens shares her touching and humorous holiday memories from her twenty years in the gown. Kids from one to ninety-two will enjoy reminiscing with characters like the elves, Bruce the Spruce and, of course, Miller and Rhoads's legendary 'real Santa.' Discover behind-the-scenes drama and learn firsthand what it was like to partake in this unforgettable event.

Pick of the Week

Looking for something to read this weekend?  Here's a suggestion for the inquisitive among you!

by Adam Hart-Davis
The Book of Time is a complete guide to one of the most important, paradoxical and truly mind-bending subjects there is. It explores every aspect of time, including how it works in the natural world and in our bodies, its significance in religion and philosophy, how we measure it and how it has been essential to our scientific understanding of the universe and everything in it. Five sections of insightful text, color photographs and sidebars call on social and political history, science, religion, philosophy, psychology, physics, astronomy, commerce and the natural world to explore time from different perspectives. Time can be billions of years or billionths of a second, but it is always passing... or is it? The Book of Time is a fascinating account of a universal mystery.

And remember that even when the library is closed for the holidays, you can still check out eBooks and eAudiobooks using our OverDrive service!
