The Complete Compost Gardening Guide

by Barbara Pleasant

Compost devotees think outside the compost bin in presenting ways to better utilize this garden resource. After introducing the rationale for and basics of recycling organic materials, Pleasant and Martin present such labor-saving techniques as banner batches, grow heaps, and "catch-and-release" vermicomposting. They also address the challenges of composting such materials as dead fish and old bones, and provide recipes for compost tea and special soils for specific crops.

Out Stealing Horses

by Per Petterson

We were going out stealing horses. That was what he said, standing at the door to the cabin where I was spending the summer with my father. I was fifteen. It was 1948 and one of the first days of July." "Trond's friend Jon often appeared at his doorstep with an adventure in mind for the two of them. But this morning was different. What began as a joy ride on "borrowed" horses ends with Jon falling into a strange trance of grief. Trond soon learns what befell Jon earlier that day - an incident that marks the beginning of a series of vital losses for both boys." "At age sixty-seven, Trond has settled into a rustic cabin in an isolated part of eastern Norway to live the rest of his life with a quiet deliberation. A meeting with his only neighbor, however, forces him to reflect on that fateful summer."

"New" links to online databases

The library has 36 online databases and resources that cover a wide variety of of subjects from genealogy to health, student research to reader's advisory, and so much more! Getting to these resources just became a little easier.

Previously, for some of our databases, you've been asked to go through Find It Virginia when you're at work, home, or school. Now you can go to the database directly just by entering your library card number when asked.

If you have any questions about our online databases or any other library service, please call (804) 365-6211 or e-mail ask@pamunkeylibrary.org.
